Do You Invest in Your Health?
By Thushara Mohan, Coach ,Fittr

Four years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life — I began investing in the most valuable asset I own: my health. At the time, I was a complete beginner to fitness and nutrition. With the help of a colleague, I embarked on a weight loss journey. Little did I know that this decision would completely transform my lifestyle and change years of unhealthy habits.

Health is wealth, and just like any other investment, the more you nurture it, the better the returns. Over the years, my investment in health has paid off in several ways:

1. No More Food Labelling

In the past, I used to label certain foods, especially restaurant meals, as “bad.” This mindset often led to guilt whenever I indulged in such foods, making me feel like I was sabotaging my health goals. But understanding the concept of macronutrients (macros) has been a game-changer. Instead of labeling food as good or bad, I now focus on balancing my macros. This shift has not only helped me make better food choices but also reduced cravings. The more restrictive your diet, the higher the likelihood of deviating from your goals. A balanced approach makes it easier to stay consistent without guilt.

2. Regular Health Checkups

In today’s world, lifestyle diseases are becoming more common, even among individuals in their 20s and 30s. Regular health checkups, including comprehensive blood tests, every six months are essential for monitoring your health. These checkups provide a reality check on how your body is responding to your lifestyle choices and can motivate you to stay on track. They can also help in early detection of potential health risks, guiding necessary lifestyle adjustments.

3. Keep Moving

With desk jobs and excessive screen time, our bodies are becoming more sedentary, leading to poor posture and joint problems. One of the best things you can do for your health is to keep moving. Incorporating regular workouts and increasing your daily step count ensures that your muscles and joints remain active. This helps to improve strength, endurance, and flexibility, reducing the risk of age-related conditions like osteoarthritis.

Why Investing in Health is the Best Decision

When you invest in your health, you’re investing in your future. A fit and healthy body allows you to live a more productive and fulfilling life. It helps you stay active, reduces the risk of diseases, and boosts your mental well-being. The journey may not always be easy, but it’s the most rewarding investment you can make.

Remember, health is not just a destination but a lifelong journey. It’s about making consistent, sustainable choices that improve your quality of life. If you haven’t started yet, there’s no better time than now to invest in your health.
