Before vs After: More Than Just a Transformation

By Soniya Bagoriya, Certified Fitness and Nutrition Coach

When most people hear the word transformation, the first thing that comes to mind is a before and after picture — the visible difference on the weighing scale or in the mirror. But true transformation is not just about how you look; it’s about how you feel, function, and sustain the results in the long run.

For me, this journey has been about much more than weight loss or muscle gain. It has been about balance, self-love, energy, and resilience. Nutrition provided the fuel, workouts gave me strength, and consistency gave me lasting results.

My Fitness Journey: From 35 kg to 65 kg and Back to 52 kg

I started my fitness journey in 2020 with a short-term mindset: “I’ll gain weight in one year and then stop.”

  • At the beginning, I weighed only 35 kg.
  • Within a year, I reached 65 kg — but the truth was, I gained more fat than muscle.
  • Realizing this, I worked on fat loss and dropped down to 52 kg, achieving a healthier balance.

But this was not a straight path. My transformation came with challenges, setbacks, and valuable lessons.

The Challenges I Faced

1. Knee Injury

At one point, I suffered a knee injury that set me back for almost a year. This forced me to pause heavy workouts and focus on rehabilitation, mobility, and slow recovery.

2. Medical Issues

Alongside the injury, I also faced health-related problems, which caused further weight fluctuations and increased fat gain during inactivity.

3. Lack of Knowledge in the Beginning

In the early days, I believed that faster progress meant better progress. Only later did I realize that quick fixes often do more harm than good — both physically and mentally.

Despite all these struggles, I stayed consistent, moved forward step by step, and eventually achieved sustainable results.

Lessons Learned: Why Fast Progress is Not Always Good

Fitness taught me one of the biggest life lessons — slow progress builds strength that stays.

🚫 The Downsides of Fast Weight Loss

  • Can damage metabolism
  • Leads to nutrient deficiencies
  • Causes muscle loss instead of fat loss
  • Increases risk of hormonal imbalance

🚫 The Downsides of Fast Weight Gain

  • Accumulates unhealthy fat instead of lean muscle
  • Puts extra pressure on joints (especially knees and spine)
  • Can trigger insulin resistance and other health issues

✅ Why Slow Progress Works

  • Gives your body time to adapt naturally
  • Encourages better recovery and injury prevention
  • Helps you build habits that last
  • Supports sustainable fat loss or muscle gain
  • Creates long-term energy, balance, and confidence

The Power of Consistency

One of the most important things I realized is that small daily actions create big results over time.

  • Choosing nutritious meals consistently fuels your body.
  • Training regularly — even light workouts — builds strength and resilience.
  • Rest and recovery ensure long-term progress.

Fast results fade, but consistent small efforts lead to a lifestyle change.

Injury Recovery and Mindset Shift

My knee injury was a turning point. Initially, I saw it as a setback, but it taught me patience. Recovery took almost a year, but instead of giving up, I:

  • Focused on rehab exercises and low-impact movements
  • Paid attention to nutrition for healing
  • Learned to listen to my body instead of chasing numbers

This phase made me realize that fitness is not a race; it’s a lifelong journey.

Before vs After: The Real Transformation

Yes, my body changed — from 35 kg → 65 kg → 52 kg. But the real transformation was:

  • From impatience to consistency
  • From lack of knowledge to scientific awareness
  • From just looking fit to actually feeling healthy and strong

This is why I say: before vs after pictures don’t show the full story. The real change is internal — in mindset, confidence, and sustainability.

Final Thoughts: Strength That Stays

If you’re starting your own fitness journey, here’s my advice:

  • Don’t chase quick results — they fade.
  • Focus on slow, steady progress — it lasts.
  • Build a lifestyle around balanced nutrition, consistent workouts, and patience.

Remember: fast progress fades, but slow progress builds strength that stays. 💪🏻
