Travel and Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle: Tips from Shikha S Pandya

Traveling is an exciting adventure that can boost both physical and mental well-being. However, it can also disrupt your regular health routine, making it challenging to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Recently, I traveled to my hometown for nearly a month, and despite the many disruptions, I managed to stay on track by following a few simple tips.

1. Research a Nearby Gym

The first thing I did upon arrival was search for a nearby gym. While it might seem unusual, committing to a gym membership keeps you serious about your workouts. As a result, I didn’t miss a single training session during my trip. If a gym isn’t accessible, don’t worry—there are plenty of exercises you can do in your hotel room or home. Bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, and lunges, along with stretching or yoga routines, can keep you fit without any equipment.

2. Healthy Eating

While I wasn’t able to stick to homemade meals all the time—especially when surrounded by family and friends—I found a few strategies helpful:

Opt for Grilled Over Fried Foods: Incorporate vegetables into your meals and stay hydrated with water instead of sugary drinks.

Mindful Eating: Before heading out, I drank a whey protein shake. This small step not only helped me meet my protein intake goals but also kept me feeling full, preventing binge eating on tempting local delicacies.

3. Explore on Foot

Walking is a fantastic way to stay active while traveling. Instead of using a scooter or car, I preferred walking whenever possible. This not only helped maintain my activity levels but also allowed me to explore my surroundings more intimately.

4. Prioritize Sleep

I made an effort to maintain a regular sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, ensuring I stayed well-rested throughout my trip.

5. Stay Hydrated

Carrying a 2-liter water bottle with me at all times ensured I was meeting my hydration needs without any hassle.

These simple yet effective tips helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling, and I hope they can help you too.
