Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) is a powerful analytical technique that combines the separation capabilities of liquid chromatography with the detection and identification capabilities of mass spectrometry. However, proper sample preparation is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable results. Let’s explore the key aspects of LC-MS sample preparation.

1️⃣ Importance of Sample Preparation

Removes interferences: Sample preparation helps remove potential interferences, such as proteins, salts, and other matrix components, which can affect the performance of the LC-MS system.

1. Solid Phase Extraction (SPE)

Miniaturization: Techniques like microfluidics and nanoflow LC-MS allow for the analysis of smaller sample volumes, making them suitable for applications with limited sample availability.

Validation: Proper validation ensures that the sample preparation method meets the required performance criteria, such as accuracy, precision, and recovery.
