โOMG, I was so BAD this week! โ
โI shouldnโt have all that pasta or dessertโ
โIโll be better from Monday! Promise!โ
As a Fittr Coach, I get to hear this all the time. Who knows, maybe youโve caught yourself or a friend say something just like this.
It seems as if more and more people end up getting trapped in this endless spiral of โYo-Yo Dietingโ. You start a diet with great gusto only to cheat on it in a matter of days. Feeling ashamed and regretful, you make all kinds of resolutions and promises, only to fall off the wagon again!
โญ๐๐ก๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ง?
Go online or talk to your friends and family and youโll receive loads of unwarranted advice on food. The world seems to be divided into two camps: ย those who have found the ultimate superfood and those who are looking for it.
The problem is not the food itself but the way we look at food.
Weโre constantly told that this food is good and that is bad.
โWhite Foods are bad because sugar and rice make us fat and โ youโve guessed it โ theyโre both white!
โCarbohydrates are evil โ especially if you eat them at night.
โFats make us fat.
โProtein gives us kidney stones โ and makes women masculine!
โThen, there are those who will only eat organic and non-GMO because everything else gives you cancer.
All this gives rise to fad diets and food psychosis.
Instead of seeing food as something that gives you nourishment, you start fearing food โ or worse still, treating it as a drug!
In a world where we are constantly misled about food, how do we keep a sane head? ย How do we stop looking at food through a moral lens and start seeing it as a way to fuel our body?
โThe answer is ๐๐ฅ๐ถ๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ.
โญ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐จ๐?
Food is a source of energy and nutrition. It gives us Protein, Fats, and Carbohydrates โ the macronutrients โ and provides us with energy. Be it your pizza, chocolate, a bowl of rice, protein shake, doughnut, a serving of mixed greens brimming with dressings. It goes into our body, gets digested, metabolized, and used by the body in the form of energy.
The thing you need to understand is that different foods have different nutrient profiles. Some foods contain more nutrients and fibers than others.
Start seeing food for what it really is โ a source of energy and a means to keep your body in good working condition. Once you adopt this approach, you will start choosing foods that provide a complete nutritional profile.
And donโt be too worried about calories โ those can be adjusted to your individual needs so that you enjoy your favorite foods AND continue to stick to your diet.
As with everything else, moderation is the key.
